Indwelling Catheters
An indwelling catheter is inserted directly into the urethra of the penis and then connected to a reservoir for drainage. They are most often used within inpatient care facilities like hospitals and nursing homes.
Individuals who frequently use indwelling catheters are prone to unary tract infections (UTI).
“In fact, men whose urine was collected with an external or “condom” catheter during their hospital stay had an 80 percent reduction in the risk of urinary tract infection (UTI) or death as compared with men whose urine was collected with the usual “indwelling” catheter, the research shows. The condom external catheters were also far more likely to be seen as comfortable and non-painful.” - Newsroom of the University of Michigan Health System
For the above reasons, UroDry does not offer indwelling catheters. Our mission is to provide safe, effective, long term dryness protection without the use of indwelling catheters. If you are currently using an indwelling catheter, consider using an external condom catheter like AlphaDry, Liberty Pouch™ or a standard condom catheter.
