AlphaDry One Piece Catheter - Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing wetness due to either the AlphaDry slipping down or off the penis and/or backflow of urine from a high flow rate, most of the time it can be corrected.

The following is a list of possible problems with the suggested solutions.

1. Wrong Size of AlphaDry. You may need a smaller size if you are experiencing any slippage. Please keep in mind that you don’t want to go to such a small size that you have difficulty putting the AlphaDry on.

2. Velcro Straps Not Snug Enough. If you are experiencing any slippage or backflow, you may need to tighten the Velcro Straps around the penis. Please remember, if it is uncomfortable, it is too tight.

3. Weight of Urine-Filled Reservoir Is Pulling on the AlphaDry. Make sure that the weight of the AlphaDry is being supported by your briefs-style underwear and not pulling on the condom portion which could cause it to slip.

4. Letting the AlphaDry Get Too Full. If the AlphaDry gets too full, a back pressure is created so that the urine does not flow freely into the reservoir portion. Also, the weight pulls on the condom portion possibly creating slippage. It is best to release the urine before the reservoir becomes more than one half full.

5. Not Checking Positioning from Time to Time. Approximately every three hours you should check to make sure that the condom portion of the AlphaDry is fully pulled onto the penis and that the Velcro Straps are snugly in place. This is also a good time to empty the reservoir.

6. Not Having the Inside of the Condom Portion Dry When Putting On. If the Grippers inside the condom portion are damp or wet, they lose some of their gripping power. If you don’t have time for air drying, use a hair dryer. Do not use a lubricant or powder on the penis or inside the condom portion. They will make the Grippers lose gripping power.

7. The AlphaDry System Was Used Too Long. The AlphaDry is made from the highest grade latex available. However, with use it does tend to stretch out. It is recommended that you replace your AlphaDry after 15 days of service. If you are alternating two AlphaDry Units every other day (recommended), they will last a month because neither one will have more than 15 days of service.
